Saxon - About Us

Nick and Tom Barrow

Saxon Motorsport moved into karting in 1998 where we met the need for an expert and experienced kart and kart's spares supplier in the UK.

Three generations of racing success

We’ve always had a race team, reflecting our passion for the sport. Nick Barrow, our managing director, has been in motor racing since he was 13. You could say racing is in his blood. His father, Tom Barrow, raced cars and karts and won numerous club meetings. Nick was an expert moto-cross rider in the 80’s. In 1990 he won the British Tarmac Rally Championship and took class wins at international level in rallies including Ypres, Scottish and Ulster.

In endurance saloon car racing he has had numerous class wins at the famous Nürburgring and in 2005 competed in the BritSports Series in a Radical. Further in October 2005 he won the Belcar Masters at Zolder in Belgium.

In recent years, Nick has been competing in more and more endurance racing. He has competed the Nurburgring 24 Hours Race 12 times and in 2008 came 9th overall out of 200 starters, finishing as he highest placed non works team. He also competes in the Silverstone 24 Hours. Paul Ricard 24 Hours and Barcelona 24 Hours races, winning the latter in 2015.

Nick’s son Thomas and daughter Sarah have also raced for Saxon Motorsport and gained dozens of class and Championship wins over the years. Having started out in the Cadet class, then moved through TKM, 100cc  and Super 1 and culminating in Biland Racing both nationally and internationally as far afield as Monaco, Portugal and Dubai, they have had a great deal of success in their racing careers.

In 2009, Thomas started racing in Formula Ford 1600. In his first season he finished a close second in the Castle Combe Carnival and gained an overall win at Thruxton, success he built on in 2010/11.

In 2011, Saxon decided to move on from Formula Ford and set about building our own BMW 1 series Turbo Diesel car with the intention of racing again at the Nurburgring. Such was the success of this venture that an LPG hybrid race car soon followed alongside a mighty 5.0 litre V10. In 2016 we plan to race all three cars in various British Championships including the GT Cup and the Silverstone 24 Hour in April, as well as competing in international Creventic rounds at Barcelona, Zandvoort and Paul Ricard plus the 24hr race and various VLN rounds at the Nurburgring to name but a few!
